We offer a program designed to give caregivers a 4-hour break to focus on their own needs, attend appointments, and enjoy some personal time without worrying about their loved ones. During this time, participants benefit from engaging social interactions and participate in various activities, ensuring they have a fun and enriching experience in a safe environment.

Participant Program

A Typical Program Day

Introductions

The Program is theme based each week with the first 90 minutes focusing on
introductions of ourselves in the group. We may tell some jokes to break the ice, trivia about the week’s theme, Crossword Puzzles and gentle chair yoga with Sherry.

Lunch

Lunch is provided as part of the Program and is a nourishing choice provided by local restaurants and supporters of the MDR Program. Lunch can run anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. Special care is taken to those who need extra time.

Arts & Crafts

Monthly Arts & Crafts are included as a way to stimulate cognition and keep individuals with Dementia or Alzheimer’s engaged. Projects may include painting, tie-dye, or potting plants, with activities tailored each month to match our clients’ abilities.

Stretch & Movement

Stretch and movement before lunch.

Animal Therapy

The afternoon program consists of Animal Assisted Therapy which is provided every week alternating each program day so each program day has 2 days per month of Animal Assisted Therapy. Both Therapists are licenses and accredited as are their therapy dogs. Summer season we are unable to provide this service in September and part of October.

Bingo

Bingo is played once a month during our afternoon program. We normally play up to 4 games with fun prizes included.

Cardio Drumming

Drumming provides physical benefits for seniors with better joint mobility and enhanced muscular strength through a low-impact workout.  It boosts cognitive function and memory, stimulates the brain, and promotes a positive mood by reducing stress and anxiety.

End-of-Day Music

Probably one of our most important times within the program day as it stimulates memories as well as movement within the groups. Our music program runs from 2 PM until close of the day at 2:30 PM to leave all clients uplifted!
