Testimonials
“Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia affect over 5 million Americans, and this number
will explode to over 15 million by 2050. Despite the devastating toll this takes on persons and
an even larger number of family caregivers, adequate resources for proper assessment and
service delivery are difficult to find and fragmented.
Collier County has established integrated
care of older persons, particularly those with dementia, to be a high priority. Marco Dementia
Respite (MDR) in Marco Island, Florida is committed to meeting this challenge by providing in-person services to those suffering from dementia and providing respite to caregivers in need.
I am pleased to support the development and growth of MDR and believe it will serve as a model and catalyst for properly integrated care of older persons suffering Alzheimer’s and related dementia.”

"Having a respite once or twice a week is truly life-changing. Programs like MDR allow caregivers time to have coffee and share time together, feeling refreshed and eager to return for our participants a few hours later. These programs also give caregivers time to keep up with life, like grocery shopping! Precious, precious time."
Susan Gardner
Caregiver, Marco Island
"Our MDR team is addressing an acute need for Alzheimer's/Dementia care here in the Marco Island area with, for the first time, Marco Island area resources. For Marco, by Marco, as we like to say. In the immediate term, we will provide quality programming for early-stage patients and desperately needed respite for their caregivers at no cost, another first. In the longer term, we will work passionately to increase our broad coalition of Marco area resources to create a more unified island-wide approach to all levels of care and entertainment for our senior citizens."
Tim Rose
Chair, MDR Board of Directors

"The compassionate outpouring of care was evident as we walked through the door. I was able to feel so comfortable leaving my husband in the hands of your support team."
